It isn't the government in the case of the United States, but, for the most part large corporate media conglomerates who exist to make money. This is why the "liberal" media myth is so hilarious. It is in none of the media conglomerates financial interests to have a "liberal" bias. It is, however, in their interests to support a political philosophy which discourages government involvement in big business and encourages tax cuts for the wealthy rather than the middle class. Ruppert Murdock and Fox news are case study examples of this, but let me assure you CNN and the rest of the media (other than NPR, PBS and Pacifica) follow suit. This is why they pick up on what you call the "labels" from the right wing (like the whole "flip flopper" thing with John Kerry). I enjoy your blog, keep up the good work!</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/2735543630403721576/7129259361410521714/comments/default/7782588975140561276'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/2735543630403721576/7129259361410521714/comments/default/7782588975140561276'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.murnagilbert.com/2008/04/propaganda-and-democratic-illusion.html?showComment=1216174200000#c7782588975140561276' title=''/><author><name>Jason Katzenbach</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/00398240441712414758</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='16' height='16' src='http://img2.blogblog.com/img/b16-rounded.gif'/></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://www.murnagilbert.com/2008/04/propaganda-and-democratic-illusion.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2735543630403721576.post-7129259361410521714' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/2735543630403721576/posts/default/7129259361410521714' type='text/html'/><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='blogger.itemClass' value='pid-964386680'/></entry></feed>
